Sony have mentioned that the PS3 will be around for 10 years. What does this mean for the future of the Sony Playstation 4? Well, considering the PS2 and PS3 went side by side for a while, it might not mean much. We still could see a PS4 console in the next few years. However, Microsoft have also expressed interest in this area and “might” be planning on beating Sony to the mark. Maybe an XBox 720 is just around the corner

People ask me how many people I have working on the next generation. On the one hand, it’s everybody. On the other, it’s nobody. A: We start thinking about the next generation before we shipped the Xbox 360. It doesn’t start with a date. It starts way upstream with silicon development. From that comes a series of data points. You start making early technology choices. It’s an evolving thing. Stuff doesn’t become concrete until you get inside a window of when you have to ship, more than 18 months or so out.

I’d just like to say the it is a federal offense copying my name on a online forum. The Idiot who did could get in big trouble with the FBI no doubt. Now about the debate, I am still a big fan of the PS3 but I helped design the Xbox, although now im retired and loving life with my family, I do Occasionally pop into Microsoft HQ and see what progress is like. It is my estimation, that the 720 Console will be released in the fall of 2013.

To be honest guys, its purely a matter of preference. Whatever you want in a gaming consolem you can choose. Nobody is forcing you to choose either. I own a 360 but still love the ps3. Besides, its usually the simple things like the controller or even who out of your mates owns which. I look forward to the 720 and will most definitely be buying one.
The 360 is better than the PS3 for many reasons, including : better online play, more hardcore games, and ISN’T SONY! If you want some pussy gaming then go for the PS3. The good games on PS3 are the sports games, if you want a good 1st person or 3rd person shooter, then go for the 360!
Hey james parker you are amazing but simply wrong when you on about ps3 has better graphics, appearance and gameplay, first of all the graphics on the xbox 360 are better in most games just check gamespot, gametrailers and ign they all compare multiplatform games and see which is better and its always the 360 with more colour better shadows, ok there were one or two that were just better then the xbox and i know about the technology they use in the ps3 but the ps3 is so hard to work with for developers so they cant get gaames out as early as the xbox. I am an owner of both consoles and i think that the ps3 is slightly better than the 360, not enough to warrant me branding it into my face. But the community no doubt is less of the 360′s community, we don’t have to put up with fanboys.
The graphics are the same, but like others have said the Ps3 will be better in the long run, i myself rent and watch Blu-Rays on my Ps3 and dare say in a few years when people realise the quality, Blu-ray will overtake DVD’s. So much for these kek HD-Dvds. which were a hilarifail.
Sony has my vote on this one, call me every name you want, but until you have both consoles don’t even comment on how the 360 is better than the Ps3.

look at first i was stubborn towards the Xbox 360 and favoured the PS3 because PS2 was better than the original Xbox but after a friend got one and I played on it i was blown away by the gameplay the ease of the control and the fact they got rid of the crappy black and white button and replaced it with the bumpers which make pressing them a whole lot easier
in any case i ahvent been on a PS3 but it doesnt look bright from the reports
the only disadvantage is paying for live

Now, i have both concols, i waited gap between the 360 coming out and ps3 because i thort it was a smart move. wow i was wrong. i cant even explain to you how much trouble i have had with the ps3 online, and ive herd that many people have aswell. It may have build in wireless but i would rather it diddent and get a wireless adapter that worked rather than that rubbish thing in it now. second who cares if its free. its free for a reason. ITS RUBBISH!! its also free because downloading online content is rubbish aswell! once in a blue moon the stuff for different games comes out on the playstation store and its all AGAIN rubbish! you cant even listen to music during a game! all it takes for a game to stop online on the ps3 is one person with a rubbish connection and the game stops. Now on the off chance that the ps3 is all up and runnning its good. (just good). ps3 have tryed to copy the xbox achievements with trophies. biggest waste of time ever. dosent even compare. Nothing makes me happier than when i unlock an achievement and add ponits to my gamers score.

The only reason ps3 came out later was because the creators knew it didn’t stand a chance when 360 came out and because of all the problems they where having. The blue ray is crap in the ps3 in my opinion. If you have a good system in a pile of squidge then what is the point of having it. By the way my xbox can play blue ray dvd’s when I first got it. The advantage Sony has over Microsfot in technology is that Sony is a Japanese company hardware products are sold in Japan months even years ahead of evreyone else for example Blu ray was 1-2 years ahead of North American and European markets but in Japan it was the in thing, same with the Cell prosesor which the PS3 uses. Microsft how ever has advantages in other areas such as helping out developers of games by giving the tools to create the games and most of all and sloid online servise (Xbox live) that beats Playstation net work.
Personaly if MS make the 720 with suitible hardware for the time and make it much more reliable then sony will have a hard time securing exclusive games which realy is where the battle is won or lost.

I have both XBOX 360 and PS3, If I am honest I will back the Playstation 3 all the way dont get me wrong I love my 360 and as you guys say it is an amazing console. But in all honesty PS3 has the edge with its Blu-Ray laser, huge memory and HDD space, its wireless internet and something the 360 boes not have the SIX-AXIS control system now with Dual Shock 3.
Sure 360 is wireless capable WITH AN ADAPTOR! But I would rather have wireless built into my hardware than buy an adaptor in the long run it works out cheaper.
When it comes to online frame rate with the right wireless router and wireless speed both consoles online game play should run smoothly and sweetly.
Moving onto the PS3 network I dont see the problems people have with it ye its free but what about it being free makes it rubbish?
Sony just chose not to charge people for using there online network where as Microsoft thought they would simple as really. Not everything is free on the PS3 network tho same as the Live network Demo’s and some content dependent on size are free others have a charge Xbox Live uses Live Points PS3 Network uses money uploaded from your bank.
The last Point I would like to make is the reason Sony held back the release of PS3. They noticed a HUGE software error with Blu-Ray and one or two hardware problems so they held back. Microsoft however found huge problems after 360 was released and a result large numbers of units were recalled for reprogramming and other problem solving all while the console was still being sold. That said I believe they are both amazing consoles.
You may call me what ever you like and say what you like about my comment I may be backing PS3 as the better console but I have not ripped into 360 saying its rubbish like alot of you have with PS3 and other with 360. As for Xbox 720 or Xbox 3 what ever the name will be and PS4 no one can say which will be the better console as no one knows all we can do is wait and see what happens next.

ok,here’s the scenario…. ive got a 360 and a mate has a ps3. soooooooo…
online play :
360 wins. why? well, it’s more reliable for starters compared to my mates ps3 which has a bad habit of cutting out and giving low speed connection. nothing wrong with his internet connection so must be the ps3. go to “home” on the ps3 and it’s a big, walkround advert. sure, it’s kinda like social networking as you can chat to random people but being faceless means i could start trying to chat up a 14 year old transexual and not know it or try to have a serious conversation with some psychoward screwball on his daily hour out of his padded cell. hmmmmm… not good.
graphics:
ps3 wins but 360 is so close behind it’s not really worth mentioning. sony did well to include blu-ray and lucky it won the war between it and HD-DVD. then again, blu-ray was pushed harder into the marketplace.
sound: they both do dolby 5.1 dont they? both lack an internal volume control and EQ though. NEXT!!!!
aesthetics:
360 looks funky, ps3 looks slick… who effing cares? if my 360 came in an old ice cream tub i’d be pissed, but only because it’s cheap and nasty. no-one here has chosen their console based on how it looks, i’ll bet. (actually, i’ll gamble that most comments here are from people who have had their console bought FOR them! sorry kiddies!)
general operation and ease of use:
360 wins again. the 360 operating system is so simple a stick of celery could send a message, visit the shop and select music (in game!). the ps3 looks posh but it’s not as good really and the updates take so long the ps3 actually makes you keep fit by forcing you to go do something else instead. the ps3 might have sixaxis but who really uses that function? the 360 controller is better for me as i have adult size hands and find the ps3 ones a bit small. wireless internet connection built into the ps3 is good and it does have a web browser, albeit a crap one. points to sony there.
games:
why are people here talking about games? this is a thread about consoles! if you choose your console based on the games available for that particular console then it’s not the console that’s “better”, is it? sigh… sometimes i despair…

they both do it. i’m on my 3rd 360, my mate is on his 3rd or 4th ps3. BOTH manufacturers need to get their act together as cost compared to reliability is laughable.

the wii is for your mum/sister/gay friend. ’nuff said.
the ps3 is a serious machine, is well equipped but is pricey and that has affected sales. it IS good value though and blu-ray is where dvd/home movie viewing is going next, like it or not.
the 360 is what it is. a good value next gen gaming machine. a bit down on features and power than the ps3 but its no great loss.
buy: the ps3 if you can afford it, the 360 if you can’t but check the games to see what suits you best if you can afford either one.

I liked the ps3, liked. Its not the nicest console in the world and the online is shocking, i have to say that no matter how much it costs, its worth it to play Xbox live. Also on the side of the xbox is the games it has in its arsenal and the achievements get you hooked on games so you truly get your moneys worth

i own a xbox 360 and i have never had the red light thing (i am glad to say) and my brother has a playstation 3. in my opinion the xbo looks a lot nice than the ps3 and the dashboard is also better looking. you can get better cheaper games eg halo 3, fable 2 ect and comparing the graphics there isnt much of a difference. also their is more games out for the xbox and its a lot cheaper than the ps3. so yeah i think the xbo 360 is better but if you want a blueray player then you might aswell get a ps3 because thats the only think better about it.
You all talk a load of rhetoric to be honest. Fighting and fighting. The new console will not come out until software allows better graphics and physics. This means the consoles now wont be able to play them due to RAM and the processors. Therefore a New console will have to be made with better hardware. Technically the console could be exactly the same looking, and same interface. but the hardware inside would allow better games. Take the iPhone 3GS for example. The iphone was desperate for new features. They didn’t bring a whole brand new phone out, they just upgraded the hardware. This is the only thing that will be different with the next generations of consoles, until a new form of gaming comes out. E.g. 3D or in game gaming.

Slymn a Lymn is completely wrong, he said his xbox 360 can play blu-ray. What a load of bullpoo, xbox’s dont have blu-ray drives, so it cannot play it.
Ok first of all, the hardware power. The PS3 utilizes an 8 core processor, the xbox 360 has 3 cores. So fair is fair, the PS3 is better on processing power. Graphics power, the PS3 has later model graphics cards than the Xbox, clocked to a higher speed and with more shaders, meaning the PS3 ALSO wins here. Online is free with PS3, not considering you need a wireless adapter for the 360 AND an xbox live gold membership (£40). PS3 is the future, with blu-ray technology, which isin’t poo, because it can store more data than Xbox’s crappy old DVD format. Blu-ray can store 50gb, Xbox can store 9.6gb MAX. This means there is more data left for textures etc. Blu-ray players can cost upwards of £200, making the PS3 system itself £100 (minus the blu-ray functionality), with more power, free online, built in wireless and a 0.02% failure rate (xbox users get 34% for the RROD, as published by IGN official figures), making the PS3 system the truly ultimate compared to the Xbox.
Sure Xbox has a beefier online structure, but PSN is not laggy; and as many people have said, it depends on your internet connection strength, so does Xbox. Fair is fair, Xbox 360 has MORE games, sometimes, but not usually better, as i’ve already said, blu-ray can hold more data, meaning better graphics.Compare reviewers scores of 10/10 MGS4 review gamespot and gears of war 2 9.0.
