Sony have mentioned that the PS3 will be around for 10 years. What does this mean for the future of the Sony Playstation 4? Well, considering the PS2 and PS3 went side by side for a while, it might not mean much. We still could see a PS4 console in the next few years. However, Microsoft have also expressed interest in this area and “might” be planning on beating Sony to the mark. Maybe an XBox 720 is just around the corner

A: Too early to tell. Our view is we will be selling Xbox 360 for a long time. We are always working on new technologies. We have people working on those. People ask me how many people I have working on the next generation. On the one hand, it’s everybody. On the other, it’s nobody. People are continuously working on new technology.Q: What’s the planning cycle?
A: We start thinking about the next generation before we shipped the Xbox 360. It doesn’t start with a date. It starts way upstream with silicon development. From that comes a series of data points. You start making early technology choices. It’s an evolving thing. Stuff doesn’t become concrete until you get inside a window of when you have to ship, more than 18 months or so out.

I am the manager of xbox 360 and microsoft personally i think sony PS3 is slightly better over all, there graphics, gameplay and appearance overall are outstanding!
I think that the xbox 360 creators are alot better than the ps3 ones as the xbox came out 2 years before the playstation and they are relly the same in all ways in graphics, memory and also the xbox is alot more cheper and the playstation wont be comeing out for 10 years and the new xbox is just around the corner!!!!!!

In all fairness “Sean”, they made the ps3 years ago, but didnt realease due to problems and wanted to get it right before they released it. I am going to sell Microsoft to Sony so PS3 and PS4 will “pwn” the stupid Xbox which wasn’t even my idea to begin with. A recent round table discussion between Kotaku, Engadget, Gizmodo and Sony there were some interesting conversations to be found. One such was about the PS3 and what went wrong with it. The good news is that they know how to fix the problem. Representing Sony was Jack Tretton (CEO) Sony Computer Entertainment America. The short version is that Sony has always focussed on hardware. With the PS3 they did both tasks, but the hardware and software teams did not really speak together. The hardware people created the PS3, dumped it on the laps of the software guys and said “here, work with it”.
In Jack’s words, “we know what we’re doing,” but it’s going to take a long time to atone for past missteps.
In essence, as Tretton says, the PS3 was not developed in collaboration between the two teams. As a result of this, the software team has been cleaning up the mess made by the hardware team for years.

In my opinion i think the xbox 360 and the ps3 are the same in graphics and gaming quality. The only differences are the looks and the price.
it is so sad how ppl say 360 is better than ps3, IBM is using the freakin prossesor from the ps3 in the new super computer. the blue ray disk holds freakin 25g’s and it isnt dual layer, that means more room for graphics and in depth games. sony has made the ps3 for the future. ppl say how better 360 is compared to ps3 but most of the ppl dont have both and cant afford one. The ps3 kicks ass and rapes 360 so hard. the only thing that 360 has over ps3 is the network community, cuz its new.

having had both ps3 and xbox 360 I can safely say Xbox > all… nothing compares to online playability on the 360.. yes you have to pay £4 a month for non lagging servers… I would rather pay than get some sub standard laggy rubbish… most of my mates sold there ps3′s as games was crap… xbox 360 Gamer point system gives people more incentive to play… everyone is bragging about the cores etc etc that the PS3 has.. but pointless having them if software companies arent taking advantage of it…. Hi I have a 14 bedroom house but we only use 3 bedrooms the other 11 are locked…. the PS3 on paper might be better but as has been proved many times stats on paper mean nothing… you can show off your benchmarks.. I will go and have some fun online on my 360…. you can all use which machine you prefer at the end of the day… but I am speaking from experience … I dont play games offline so I need the best online console there is… and that has to be the 360…
Blu-ray and HD DVD will never catch on. The two formats are just as bad as each other. Normal DVD’s will be around until a completely new format comes out. So this feature doesn’t make the xbox or ps3 better than each other. I have an xbox and I have yet to play a ps3. I was actually goiung to buy a ps3 but too expensive for me and I’m happy with my choice. I’m not going to argue which is better but what I will say is that xbox has a much better online gaming community….I3ankieDrummeR

Notice i didnt put beter graphics on PS3, even though it has blue ray because i have never seen a PS3 game with beter graphics than the upcoming Gearrs of war 2 game for 360. Plus having seen COD4(for example) on ps3 and 360 i cant tell the diference.
I’m a gamer and as such I prefer whichever console is the best at the time. I’ve owned PS1 & 2 so I’m not a fanboy, but haven’t seen anything on PS3 to warrant the cost of getting one. PS3 owners, in you honest opinion, can you say that games are that much better on the PS3. Most reviews say games available on both consoles are practically identical.
Xbox live is great and unless the PS3 drops in price, I won’t be getting one. I’ll reserve judgement on PS4, but I would imagine I will get the 720 for the online games.

I look at it this way, I have had a pc for 10 years, and used lots of Microsoft software; Windows, Internet Explorer, Office, etc, and for the most part it has sucked more than being a Wii Owner (funny no one has mentioned owning one STILL).
Microsoft has a history (for the PC) as I just stated, so for me having been an owner of both a Sony Playstation and PS2, and having no problems apart from the usual wear and tear of excessive usage, decided to get a PS3.
I have read about all the problems, the glitches, the bugs, the faults, the way it crashes beyond repair sometimes, and in spite of all this I am willing to take THAT risk and get a PS3, because Sony have a track record with their first 2 generation consoles of producing machines which lasted, ok a PS3 lets that argument down greatly but given their past, and learning from previous mistakes made on the PS3 I think if and when the PS4 is produced it should be a much better console than the 360, and to be honest I have my doubts whether any next generation console from Microsoft will be able to capitalise on what they have created and take the next gen console forward enough to make it the dominant of the two brands. I guess we will have to wait untill 2011 or there abouts to see what happens but I do think that Sony will come back with a much improved product.
well personally what more can they do to the playstation…. they got everything possible. i aint just saying this but nintendo has the best lead as it gets you involved in the games physically and metally, although i must admit there games are aimed at the younger audienceif they had games ( for example) like grad theft auto it would be a much betta system.
The ps3 is pure crap and lik at least we (xbox) dont have any lag when we play online. With the nxe coming up, i wud say that the 360 is going to kick the ps3′s ass !!!

The only reason so many people say they prefer the Xbox 360 (which don’t get me wrong,is a good console) is because it came out first and was fairly cheap. The same reason why last generation more people preferred the Playstation 2. Hardware wise, my PS3 has never failed me, and runs silent,as opposed to my 360′s which always freeze up or rrod, and sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Don’t forget, once blu-ray disc owns the movie market consumers are going to want to buy the cheapest, upgradable blu ray disc player, which just so happens to be a PS3 (this may also turn non gamers into purchasing games). Sony is not stupid, they know in the long run their console will come out on top.

I love both consoles, it is actually not that expensive £200 for 360, £300 for PS3. I personally paid £200 for 360 but bought (stupidly) a PS3 for £500 when it first came out with five games and extra controller.
The 360 has more games, PS3 is of higher (theoretical) spec. To be honest the Wii is a waste of time. But overall I love my Dell XPS M1730 more!!!!!
The PS3 uses a Cell BE Processor with 8 cores clocked at 3.2GHZ using a 55nm fabrication process created with partnership with IBM, Toshiba and Sony. They are devising a plan to shrink the processing size to 32nm enabling more cores to 6-7GHz with 16 cores possibly or 32 cores but at a lower rate of maybe 4 GHz. Since the processor is a new type, developers have to adjust to programming the CPU and in a few years, developers would be able to use the Cell BE CPU to the top extent and when the next Sony Playstation released using the new Cell BE Processor and the developers having knowledge of how to develop games easier and much more advance, I think the next Playstation will have real-time raytrace rendering with a couple million polygons in one scene.
I have an Xbox 360, PS3 and a Wii and not a crazy PS3 fanboy but I prefer the PS3, its personal preference and insulting the PS3 for crap games isn’t Sony’s fault, the graphics and bugs or whatever are software based, the PS3 is only the platform to play it. Sony know in the longer run that in a few years maybe 3/4 years, the PS3 will have better games as programming the Cell BE CPU is harder than programming a normal Intel Xeon Triple core 3.2GHz processor which the Xbox 360 has and when like I said earlier, when the developers become fluent games will be looking a lot better. As for the next Xbox console, I can’t say I have checked anything for it but possibly using Intel Nehalem processor maybe or using the same design as such having a 8-core processor (4 Core, 8 Thread) or maybe 12-core (6 core, 12 thread) using the Westmere architecture.
I have had playstations and i am an xbox guy. I love my 360 i am on number 2 and i will happily buy a 3rd and a 4th. I respect playstation and i know alot of people who have ps3′s i just dont get along withh them i wouldnt buy a ps3 even for the blue ray player i would rather get a stand alone blue ray player. I carnt wait for the 720 or the next gen of xbox it will be before the ps4 i just hope they fix the backwards compatability this time.

i had a ps3 and sold it for a 360 elite, 360 has more and better games, graphics there is no difference at the moment and wont be until developers start manufacturing exclusives again, for some reason there very few as they seem to have relaised that there is more money to be made by going multi platform, blue ray isnt really anything that special especially as its a games consolse, and after playing both the 360 online service is miles better and we only have to pay 30 quid a year. That is why the 360 is better, ps3 owners think there really grown up and clever as they have a machine that should have been better…..when in actual fact its really just a turd in a black box
p.s.3 are crap the controllers have no stability they flex like a gymnastic on steriods. i have owned a p.s.3 and a xbox and xbox wins hands down more exclusive games its just the way to go. so every1 who owns a p.s.3 sell your shoe box for £20 and go get urself a real console!!!!
