XBox 720 to Beat Playstation 4?

by Matthew on June 28, 2008

xbox-720Sony have mentioned that the PS3 will be around for 10 years. What does this mean for the future of the Sony Playstation 4? Well, considering the PS2 and PS3 went side by side for a while, it might not mean much. We still could see a PS4 console in the next few years. However, Microsoft have also expressed interest in this area and “might” be planning on beating Sony to the mark. Maybe an XBox 720 is just around the corner ;)

Q: Do you want to be first with the next one, too?
A: Too early to tell. Our view is we will be selling Xbox 360 for a long time. We are always working on new technologies. We have people working on those. People ask me how many people I have working on the next generation. On the one hand, it’s everybody. On the other, it’s nobody. People are continuously working on new technology.

Q: What’s the planning cycle?
A: We start thinking about the next generation before we shipped the Xbox 360. It doesn’t start with a date. It starts way upstream with silicon development. From that comes a series of data points. You start making early technology choices. It’s an evolving thing. Stuff doesn’t become concrete until you get inside a window of when you have to ship, more than 18 months or so out.

ALL THIS BICKERING AND STILL THE XBOX 360 IS A BETTER CONSOLE THAN THE PS3. FOR A START MICROSOFT HAS A LOT MORE MONEY TO DEVELOP THESE CONSOLES THAN SONY. ALSO I HEARD A RADIO REVIEW LAST WEEK ON THE BEST CONSOLES FOR ONLINE GAMEPLAY, AND THE XBOX 360 SMASHED THE PS3. I HAVE HAD A XBOX 360 ELITE FOR THE LAST 18 MONTHS AND IT HAS BEING GREAT WITH NO PROBLEMS, NOT LIKE THE PS3 THAT WAS IN A CONSUMER PROGRAM FOR THE SOLDERING ON THE BOARDS SHORTING AND LOADS OF EARLY PS3 CONSOLES BREAKING DOWN. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY MADE A SECOND PS3, I DON’T THINK IT WAS JUST TO MAKE IT SLIMMER, ALSO ON A FINAL NOTE I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE WHO HAVE BOTH THE XBOX 360 AND THE PS3 AND THEY HAVE ALL SAID IT SEEMS LIKE SONY DID NOT BOTHER TO TRY AND MAKE THE CONTROLERS BETTER AS THEY LOOK THE SAME AS THE PS2. EVERYBODY I KNOW ALSO PREFER THE XBOX LIVE TO THE PS3 FREE SERVICE AND THINK ITS WORTH PAYING FOR. I THINK THE XBOX 720 WILL SMASH THE PS4 WHEN IT ARRIVES.

steve is tupied, lets face it, what the hell did he want on the ps controller, a light bulb? xbox controllers require batteries, ps dont, their more light and handy. whatever online review u heard about the xbot beating the ps must have better either darnt cheap or retarded. also ms rips people off buy over pricing stuff on xbot live, ps give the same at a lower cost, osn has less lag and everyone i know who has both say the xbot live is not as good, i know from first hand experience. i know cycology and from what i can say from ur note is that ur defending ur seft, u feel sad and beat up inside from the fact that the ps is better. Also the ps has ten times better exclusives, and ms is just trying to milk their few successful exclusives. One more thing its not what something looks like its how it functions, go moan on the red ring. The new psn is great, ALSO I TOO LIKE CAPS

maybe you should all learn to spell first before you post, and flaming (as it is known, or caps lock) is considered shouting and very rude when reading a blog.

and just so u know someone has been blowing smoke up your pipe cos microsoft and sony both say that the ps3 and xbox360 will be sticking around and releasing upgrades and/or add ons to enhance the console in question, also there has been no official name given for the console after ps3 from sony and xbox360 from microsoft so what you hear are just as you think, non existant.

as for the controllers, both brands have trademark feats from its younger sibblings, for example the ps3 aint that much diffrent in reality from the ps1 controller (except its wireless) same goes with the xbox360 and the original xbox.

just thank your lucky stars that we have xbox360′s and ps3′s and computer’s and mobile phone’sand broadband (yea ok im with three mobile broadband pay & go who offer a measly 3.6mbps estimate but currently online at 1mbps)
years ago we never had any of this and yet now we do we do nothing but argue over which ones better, its not a point scoring contest, they both have there pros and cons

x box canes end of story :) why? i shall explain.
1. x box live, though it may cost, is a lot bigger and there is loads more stuff to do
2. the game modes are sick on the x box, and though ps3 may have silghtly better graphics, whats the point if the game modes are crap?
3. the controllers for the x box are way better than the ps3 controllers. i mean, once u have played with an x box controller, u can never go back to the ps3 ones.

First off, I am with Chris on the subject of learning to use your own language effectively. You can’t make an argument sounding like you never even finished elementary school. English is my second language and if I could learn it adequately, then so can you. I’m not talking about writing essays here, just try to make your posts legible.

Secondly, the xbox 360 is not a better made console than the ps3. I have an xbox 360 and do indeed prefer it to a playstation 3 (and I have tried both as a friend lent me his ps3). However, I have experienced first hand the shortcomings of Microsoft’s handiwork with a console that broke twice in a year. And I am 25 and a girl. I look after my gadgets.

I buy my consoles based on their price, features and most importantly the appeal of the titles available on it. I have to admit that the xbox has not disappointed me in these aspects. Multiplayer features are excellent and it seems as though Microsoft keep striving to make Xbox live more innovative, fun and desirable. However that does not mean that if a new wave of next gen consoles hit the market I will blindly buy the next Xbox. I will as always count the pros and cons and decide when the time comes, bearing in mind that the first batch of all consoles tend to be a bit dodgy.

So there’s really no need to rant and rave about which console would be better. Just wait and see. :)

The next generation of consoles will have to fight much harder to generate thier return. MS made 1.3 Billion in losses releasing the 360. Reliability issues have put as many people off as have then gone out to buy another Xbox. Will those customers return. Personally I will never buy another console as mine has been in the cupboard in favour of an upgraded PC since I released the difference in PC gaming and Console gaming. But for the first time Console gaming is facing its most serious threat to market share. Online services requiring no capital outlay are under development all over the world. Companies like Onlive can give the same gaming experience without the headache of a piece of equipment and any capital cost at all. Looks attractive to the very many people who have had their Xboxes intentionally bricked by Microsoft or simply suffered the eventual red ring of death. For gaming in general I see this as an expansion of the console concept of the mass market and no good thing for innovative leading edge gaming but its the console crowd that are the most natural market for these companies. Its going to be interesting seeing how Sony and MS address releasing a product into a market filled with a dangerous new form of competition and with a legacy of a sizable loss leader the last time around (at least in one case).

On the subject of the console battle. Both products seem to have captured a slightly different demographic so this suggests that both products has a niche and people have very specific reasons for thier choice. For some reasons the typical PS3 owner is slightly older for example. (perhaps wiser..I guess not as I am in that demographic and bought the xbox which was the wrong choice for me) Personally I wish I had the PS3 instead of the Xbox I only used for 3 weeks as I could still put it to some use whereas with the Xbox I have to effectively invite Microsoft into my home snooping through everything I do to use it properly. Now Microsoft are talking of using the data on peoples internet use to provide general information on internet usage copyright violation (torrent etc) to the US and other governments. On top of that in the US at least MS have proposed a tax for helping to do this as well as a tax for protecting people from “malicious software”. So at least in the US you could end up paying Microsoft to fix issues with their own products which enable them to be exploited in the first place. This is not time for a, but I havent done anything wrong so why would it bother me response, unless your really really naive. That information is worth a lot of money to alot of organisations and a if taken to the logical conclusion could even create a 2 tier society.

well i think both consoles are having a pointless war and everyone should get lives and go outside with their friends if they have any if not then go drink some grapefruit juice and squint
