I think they will go to the PowerXCell processor.

Include the motion tracking like the Move maybe gyro sensors in the controllers like smartphones.

What I would like to see is multi-monitor support. Playing 2 player on a first person shooter game could have different screens to different monitors. Put in quad HDMI support.
Of course with all this said, I use my PS3 for the entertainment system as at the time, it cost the same as a BluRay player (not the case anymore). My son plays games Call of Duty, etc. so he was happy with the purchase.

I think that games systems should migrate to entertainment consoles, which is what Sony has been doing. Games could jump from Blu-Ray based to SDcard or some propriatary card base. Internet TV, internet radio, is on the rise more firmware updates to the PS3. I would love to see a TV tuner / DigitalTV / Sat module with a smart card option to become more of the entertainment center.
A multichannel (7.1) amplifier module to the PS3 would be welcome. HDMI / USB connection to the amp to allow the PS3 to become the new stereo receiver.

so I like the PS3, it would have to be some major change to warrant the PS4.

i think alot of people are guessing or shooting in the dark here. To that end i would like to point out a few things.
1 IBM have had 512bit processors for some years now, the current crop of 64bit processors are but tiny fish
in a global processor market, why dont we have them as home consumers?, well im guessing here that either microsoft
or IBM wont play ball, they feel that we are not ready (or maybe rich enough) to have 512bit computing.

2 Sony will equip it's next gen console with everything it feels will give it the best chance or being the most compatible
with current consumer electronic trends and developments. the specs as i see them could be as follows.
OPTICAL DRIVE is kept but probably becomes HD-Blu-ray (this has already been made btw) essentially it's a blu-ray drive with 4x the storage capacity (from what i remember).
8-16GB RAM. this is speculation of course but with ram prices tumbling all the time it would make sense to add a fair amount to the system/CPU.
6X USB connectors. Aimed at family entertainment sony would employ 4x usb for controllers (usb v3.0 btw) and 2xusb for extra peripherals (who knows what they are cooking up).
CELL-2 processor. While there has been rumour that people found the original cell processor difficult to program
and the rumour mill has it that sony is dropping the cell from its next gen machine, this in my opinion would do nothing but harm the next machine, why?, because it was the combination or graphics and the cell processor that made the ps3 what it is today, dont forget that sony is introducing 3D to the ps3 via firmware update, it's what made it stand out
as the best gaming console. Nintendo knew (or had a bloody good idea) what Sony were up to and decided (wisely)
to not even try and compete with Sony's machine and instead went for motion tech instead (which now microsoft AND Sony have now got into).
GRAPHICS. a custom graphics chip will be obtained from (im guessing) either AMD or NVIDIA, personally i dont care which just so long as it is at the forefront of graphical tech (1080p as standard but with a resoloution as high as 7kx4k)
3D tech as standard (once the tech settles down between active and passive not forgetting 3D without glasses which is trying to make a splash). Motion tracking as standard. HDMI 1.4 as standard but also including HDMI 1.3 for compatibility with like 90% of the current tv sets in peoples houses now (always subject to change that one).
STYLING. i suspect that sony will stick with the "no-lid" design of the ps3 allowing for vertical or horizontal placement of the unit. i also suspect that we may see more flowing lines and possibly some more lit areas of the console. (ive seen peoples screenshots of what they think the next console is going to be like but tbh i dont think any of them will be representative of what sony markets to the public.

these are just my opinions and as such i am entitled to my opinion so please dont make yourself look stupid by flaming for all your worth, if you dont agree post you own opinion without flaming another.

at the end of the day sony will do whatever it wants to do regarding spec and design, if you really want to get first glimpse, go become a sony designer or tech guru.

peace out.

In related news, the sky is blue.

Honestly, the PS3 and 360 already have multicore processors (albeit in different implementations), did anyone really expect them to go backwards to single core?

I make games that you wenches whine about for a living and you know what consoles are second to a pc/mac the technology is varied but principally the same thing. The PS3 is nothing more than hype and propaganda as is the 360, these systems were designed for one thing to keep frame rates low, thus the design specs were boosted. Fact is these architectures are now almost 3 years dated, by the time new consoles hit the market the computer age will be far ahead of the game unless your ready to dish out over $700 for future gaming.

The Wall Street Journal reports that IBM's Power7 boasts 1.2 billion transistors, eight processing cores and can handle 32 threads
If sony s would stick 2 of these in PS4 ...16 cores 64 threads 4 GB high speed RAM and some custom Nvidia Gpu we ll get closer to photorealistic games i think

"i dont care what happends but if the ps4 comes out b4 the UHDTV then it will be a waste of time, it should be released after everyone has come acustom to the new UHDTV then it should be released"
When ps3 came out in 06 there was no 1080p tv for the masses but sony said thats wht the ps3 can do...and they might do the same with the ps4 could have an 7 000 x 4k pixxel output in theory
On the other hand look at the facts hdtv still not big a lot of ppl still using regular tv s in 2010 ...in my country for ex they are selling hd channels like premium stuff when hd should be the standard by now

Anyway the bottom line is that consoles have life cycles every 5 or so year is coming out a new 1 that s what called evolution, that doesn t mean that the ps3 would be dropped, look at ps2 after 10 y they still making games for it
