PSN targeted by ‘outside party’?

It has recently become apparent that Sony have been investigating a possible outside attack on their servers which has in-turn affected their web domain as well as the PlayStation Network too.

Could this be what the group of activists calling themselves Anonymous meant when they issued a threat against the company?

Though, as of yet, damage seems minimal at best, Sony have issued a statement to thank it’s user base for “bearing the brunt of the attack through interrupted service”.

The statement reads as follows…

“We are currently investigating, including the possibility of targeted behavior of an outside party. If this is indeed caused by such an act, we want to once again thank our customers who have borne the brunt of the attack through interrupted service. Our engineers are working to restore and maintain the services, and we appreciate our customers’ continued support.”

It’s refreshing to see Sony being honest and upfront with it’s customers and we’re sure they’re doing all they can to put things right in spite of a selfish few who have taken it upon themselves to be vigilantes.

This news comes as Sony are continuing a lawsuit against the PS3 hacker – GeoHotz who was then vilified by Anonymous due to the way Sony are pushing the case forward.
