Playstation 4 Virtual Reality

PS4-virtual-realityWe’ve spoken in the past about different screens that the PS4 will use such as will the PS4 use 3D or will the PS4 be ready for Super High Vision. One we haven’t touched on yet is the possibility of virtual reality which would allow the games player to completely be immersed in to the PS4 with both sound and audio. By tracking the users head movements, a head mounted display could allow the user to freely look around any 3D world which would cover many types of games from car racing to first person shooting.

With technology advancing and the Playstation 4 being more powerful than the Playstation 3 it could bring VR technology closer to realism allowing those who play the games to almost be immersed fully in the virtual world.

It’s certainly a possibility although if Sony were to take this route then you’d hope that the games cater for both VR glasses and normal viewing as there may be many who would not or could not use a VR headset comfortably. What are your thoughts?

A 3D virtual environment would be the ultimate next step, for the gaming development.
However…. Every great feat of engeneering cant come with his downsides.

What if you have glasses :P

nvm, i would buy it anyway

Matthew August 10, 2009 at 4:20 am

I have glasses so have never bothered trying VR type stuff. It could still be an “optional” feature maybe.

dalton August 13, 2009 at 2:35 am

you can adjust certain virtual reality sets to a certain extent

Martin August 16, 2009 at 2:44 pm

If this was a probable situation for the near future then one could always look towards wearing contact lenses instead of glasses.

I would also assume that Sony would look into incorporating the less able sighted as they would loose a large market by ignoring that problem

It would probably be really expensive but a 3D game would be cool. Wonder if there would be gloves to :p

image SONY adding a smelling sensation??!!!

kaje August 29, 2009 at 3:40 pm

how could you have smelling sensation? i wonder if we will get a yes for a ps4. VR would be good though

Orlando September 24, 2009 at 11:54 am

How Will You Play???? With Your Mind Or With A Controler??? Wow Would You See What Button You’re Pressing??? This Is randy.

Matthew October 10, 2009 at 10:27 am

@Orlando… Is that a serious question? Do people still need to look at the controller when playing?

Sarsaprilla October 20, 2009 at 3:50 am

Bring on the virtual Reality!!!

there should be a whole Building for the one game and the size of the level for a FPS :D
that would be so awesome ^-^

I’d be willing to test any prototypes … >.>

Sarsaprilla October 20, 2009 at 3:57 am

Virtual Reality Would Be Really Cool.

To Answer Your Question Matthew, Some People Can Never Get The Hang Of Using A Controller, So Yes Some People May Have To Look At It.

Looking At The Screen Says It All Though!

Cant Wait For The Playstation 4 To Come Out, Its Gonner Be Sooooo Awsome, Im Gonner Buy One!!!

What Short sighted/Long sighted pepole (I myself am short sighted) really have a problem doing is focusing on objects at the right distance. So I try and look at an object 2 metres away, but my eyes only focus about a meter in front. I’m pretty sure if glasses like this came out we’d be able to just bash in our presciptions and have the device compensate for our eye sight automatically, so no need for glasses. And if you happen to wear contacts, then you would just set it to default.

Unless you were so short sighted that you couldn’t see the screen that’s a centimeter away from your eye.

Andre Vacha October 26, 2009 at 11:51 am

I think that the PS4 will have VR and i think it will be really cool.

Erik December 29, 2009 at 2:01 pm

think of call of duty modern warfare in 3D!!!!!! OMG that would rock!!!!

grant January 29, 2010 at 12:43 pm

the problem with tht is tht youd have to act the tings like fifa youd have to pretend to runa nd shoot etc.. youd look like a idiot tbh .. too early for VR i think .. wait for couple of years .. we havent really got the right technology to make it safe enough to use 24:7 ..

jamie May 23, 2010 at 12:57 pm

i think that they should do it i mean it would xbox in the dust and what is ther to lose and it would be good exersize :)

jdarkwolf June 20, 2010 at 8:43 pm

this is really cool.I want to be the first to get one.

Landon July 14, 2010 at 2:19 pm

i think that it would be a good idea to use VR technology but grant has a point you would look very retarded and possibly run into things in your way it would be a huge saftey hazzard unless you had a tredmill that ran off of your speed , power , etc..

Brandon September 30, 2010 at 9:59 am

I think they would comensate for that, and would figure out something with your brain waves to control your character

Brandon October 1, 2010 at 9:41 am

Also, sarsprarilla has a point, we made need building allocated for each indivdual level, as the whole Brainwaves tech probobaly wont be availble yet anyway, so untill it is, we may need to rely on an actual physical manifestation of that level, But it would still be an advancedment for fps games, like Modern warfare 2, imagine actually controlling your character, and it would also encourage physical fitness, for obvious reasons

theman October 5, 2010 at 4:47 pm

btw. to the guy whos talking about glasses. and the other guy whos never seen VR because he uses glasses
just wear lenses
bam

holographic ps4 will be great. i think it’ll be hard to hack it… imagine a hacked MW3 game.
person a: nuke please.
nuke
person a: die all
18killstreak instantly.

or fifa13
person a: 3000 goals
3000 goals
person a: 548923570923572097503 goals.
game overloads and match ends 3-0

on the good side/sadly. that will probably never happen and it’ll require a revolution in hacking.

ps4 ftw

This is closer then you guys think. Look at the playstation move. The eye toy can capture your every movement already. SO the system would be 3 piece. Console, Eye Toy & some sort of glasses you would wear. If you move your left arm the eye toy captures it and the console sends the movement to your headset/glasses and you see your arm moving in the enviorment that your game has put you in. You might not even need a controller. If you need to do things other then move your body you could point at an on screen icon similar to a touch screen computer only in this instance your hand would never come in contact with anything because as stated before the eye toy would realize your pointing at an icon and the console would act accordingly. If Sony is not working on this already they need to hire me to help them along in the right direction.

The one downfall is that people who wanted to play multiplayer would have to buy several headsets/glasses. With the capabilities of these things they would/will be very expensive.

dannyt111a December 30, 2010 at 8:44 am

the health and safety guys would have a field day trying to spoil it. its basically being blind folded and moving around. Would be amazing though

jim April 10, 2011 at 8:48 am

i guess if it was a call of duty style game you could just have a gun type attachment like the one used with plastation move and and a navigation pad like the existing playstation move maybe with pedals to control movement of forward and backwards that way you could still turn your head and look round while moving forward. same thing would appy for platform games and racing to an extent, i agree that not seeing the pad may be difficult though something as simple as sensors in the controls that tell the computer where the buttons are and some form of gloves that also mirror real world movent then you would still see the necesary parts of the controllers and yourself enough to play without that restriction.

Matt April 10, 2011 at 11:41 pm

Why do people assume that people who wear glasses won’t be able to use a headset? They’ll work just great as long as there are system settings that’ll compensate for your eyesight, unless you’re severely long sighted.

bobby May 3, 2011 at 2:01 pm

i think the ps4 should be VR because we gone so far with everything we need to reach a higher step and now is the time to reach that step to be inside the game think about it playing some 1v1 fighter or all around shooter but being inside the game seeing everything with your own eyes holding the damn gun lol shooting everyone XD so if you get pissed grab a 9.mm sneak up FIRST PERSON VR and shoot someone in the back of the skull XD i would enjoy that very much lmfao i think we as fans are ready for a VR world plus thay should make it where you can choose if you wanna play in VR or just simply play with the remote every time you turn on the game it should ask would you like to play this in VR if so click yes and put the headset on if not press no an play its as simple so for the fans who dnt want VR can simply choose not to play and fans who do can simply choose to play in VR

wazupcuz May 24, 2011 at 8:13 am

But… there is another big problem. If you wanted to do some freakishly acrobatic move that you are physicaly unable to do then. How is Sony going to fix that? This is why controlers have been created, still Sony has some kickass tech and I believe that they will deal with the problem. If VR is even created…

Venom June 1, 2011 at 4:06 pm

I love the idea of VR, it what every real gaming fan has dreamed of for years, i remember talking about it in school like 12 years ago. the only problem i can see with it would be movement. somthing like a pressure sensitive pad you stand on could work, lean the appropriate way to move in the direction you want to go. good for the fps like COD. but like somone said before, the unrealistc things like prince of persia movements. i cant see how that would be done safe, but still be fun at the same time. it is a great idea and i hope it happens in ps4. but there is alot of tech involved. which always means alot of money people dont have. simple solution would release seperate products for what you want. like a product for movement, vision, gloves etc.

Dark Black June 17, 2011 at 1:45 pm

I think i would be cool if every headset was it’s own console and the player moves from data collected from not physical movement but what you think. And nothing is physical about it at all. If there was a way to get the headset to tap into your mind and trick your body into using the energy from your body to move the player in the game (burn calories and what-not when you move in-game same as burn calories and what-not out of the game) you would still be able to have the whole excersize thing. Some people have the urge to move in real life when something on screen is happening (such as a missile flying towards your face or rocks falling on you), to fix the safety hazards thing of this type of situation, when using this they could make it so your asleep. The headset has an option that you agree that you are ready and it informs you that you will be put to sleep. Your brain would be accesed the same way as the excersize thing. A sort of example of this – where SOME of the ideas came from: http://mangable.com/12_prince/
Manga: 1/2 Prince. Set in 2100.
