Playstation 3 and XBox 360 Prices Slashed in the UK

by Matthew on December 15, 2008

Zavvi are cutting the price of the Arcade SKU XBox 360 down to just under £100. It will be priced at £99.99 which seems like a bargain for this console.

As well as dropping the price of the XBox 360, the retailer are also dropping the price of the Sony Playstation 3 down to £269.99 which makes it £30 cheaper then previously. This is part of Zavvi’s last-minute Christmas sale which aims to make competition a lot more fierce amongst it’s main high-street competitors. Back on to XBox pricing… not only has the Arcade SKU been dropped, but also the Premium will now be found at £149.99 while the Elite is dropping to £199.99.

According to MCV it seems like this sale will last right up to Christmas Day which is fantastic for those looking for a great deal on their next-gen consoles this Christmas. Some games are also included in this sale which are Gears of War 2 and Pro Evolution Soccer.

The last UK retailer to reduce the Xbox 360 to under £100 was Sainsbury’s, which led GAME boss Lisa Morgan to instruct her staff to buy the consoles and sell them on in her stores.

The new price for the 360 is very tempting indeed! That plus the fact that apparently they have now fixed the red ring of death makes it almost a must have! Nice one Zavvi.

That’s good that they have fixed the red ring of death. Can someone confirm what you don’t get in the 99.99 package… am I correct in thinking you need to buy a few adons to make it network compatible?

The arcade pack has a wired controller, no HDD and a white disk draw as far as i know. I don’t think there are other differences. I would never buy the arcade xbox though as surely online gaming (and the ability to save games) is essential? Plus, when you buy the HDD as an extra its almost the same cost as the premium version, so pointless. Having said that, the new ‘Jasper’ model of 360 has 256mb onboard memory, so i guess game saves can at least be achieved on the arcade!
