Playstation 3.5 – XBox 560 Coming First?

by Matthew on September 1, 2009

SlimPS3Electronic Arts suggest that rather than Sony and Microsoft releasing a PS4 and XBox 720 that they will actually release in-between models such as a Playstation 3.5 and an XBox 560. The reason for this is that Sony and Microsoft didn’t get the ball rolling as well as previous generations and that 2011 is just too quick for next-gen consoles to be launched.

For that reason it is expected that Sony and Microsoft will launch these mid updates to the hardware to extract more out of them.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you like to see another PS3/XBox 360 being created as a stepping stone to the real next-gen consoles? I do think there is a lot that can be done with the current generation of consoles, but 2 – 3 years is quite a while away still and a lot of advancements in technology will happen in this time period. It will be great seeing what path the 2 console makers are going to travel.

I’d definitely agree. The prospective ‘Playstation 4′ and ‘Xbox 720′ are huge titles, both of which will carry a lot of expectations. Currently we’re in an ‘in between’ period for technology, as we hear announcements of sixteen-core processors and relentlessly high amounts of memory coming out soon, but they are simply capitalizing upon fitting more capability into same size chips and circuit-boards, rather than bringing out something that may seem ‘revolutionary’, which would be what Sony and Microsoft would both look to incorporate into their next-gen releases.

Sony and Microsoft will both want to be on the front lines, as we are seeing huge changes already. However, they are right to think that it is too quick to bring out ‘Next-gen’ consoles, because we are currently only seeing prospective upgrades to technology, rather than . I would expect a Next-gen Playstation 4 and Xbox 720 to have something along the lines of High Definition holograms, that sense motion accurately at the rate they’re going!

Well said Brittany!!!
I also think that whom ever has the courage needs to try and conquer the market the Wii currently own with their sensor technology because we know that Nintendo have only touched upon what seems to be a revolution in gaming waiting to happen.

What would the PS4 have that the PS3 doesn’t already have? Full backwards compatibility….I’m probably not buying another system without it.

I’m interested in how much further the games consoles can go I mean the PS3 is pretty immense especially asit’s won the blu ray vs HD war surely we will just get add-ons to our current console like x bob’s sky contracts etc I dont expect to be purchasing a PS4 for at least another 3 years

They coulda removed all the other goodies from the ps3 I would would have applauded them. Hell, Even just one USB port is fine, the controllers are wireless anywho. Why kill backwards compatibility. The games are the bread and butta anyways. Esta Stupido

no inbeween consoles, thats just silly. it would be time wasting, a 3.5 and 560 would not be much better than the current consoles. please just concentrate on building a PS4 and bring out a 560 at the same time. save the 720 for the PS5 generation, keep it all in equal steps, keep it simple and in 1-2 year intervals or the launching of new consoles wouldn’t have such an exciting, “must get” effect and people will begin to say “i think i’ll miss out on this one” therefore you will begin to lose customers. a PS3.5 would just spoil it really, it needs to go up in whole numbers, and an innovative, wacky, powerful mean machine is needed: there’s only one thing for the job people and you know it, The PlayStation 4.

I think ps3 should wait abit more.. Maybe for one two year, Because like what others said, the we are in a special time period.. ps3 should not make the same mistake as before,,, Geforce gt8800 was not really enough for a console that is gonna be a next generation for couple of years,, so it should be something newer, and will be new for a period of time.. or maybe they make ps3s upgradable.. buying new chips and stuff, they can make a good money….

All Microsoft and Sony are thinking about is money they will bring the consoles out to soon just to compete with each other last time they did that alot of the xbox 360 consoles had to be sent back, I’ll be waiting at least two years before even considering buying one like I did when the 360 came out.

360 will not make through 2010
