A couple of new patents have been released by Sony recently. The first was covered over at Gadget Venue which spoke of a touch screen PSP and the ability for feedback from individual pixels rather then a general “rumble” that you normally feel on a controller. The next patent caught my interest today as it mentions a “motion-controlled image transfer device”.
The patent was filed in January and describes a method of transferring data using a hand held device. The patent also mentions that this method will use gestures rather then the more conventional method of pushing buttons and dragging and dropping.
From what we can work out it seems there will be a way to “throw” images and other data on to a next gen console (probably the Playstation 3, but possibly a Playstation 4). The idea is that you flick the data to the console and it automatically transferrers and lands right where it should. Interaction between different devices will be key in the next gen console launches. Although bluetooth and wireless is good, it is sometimes a pest to get things paired or connected to each other. Reducing the work needed to achieve this will be what separates the PS4 from the pack.
One thing to be careful of is not throwing your shiny new PSP 2.0 in to your ultra High Def screen in 2012.
