Could the PS4 be here next year?

Ken Kutaragi made a statement once which explained he had a vision “of a Playstation 4, 5 and 6 which will merge into the network”. According to Softpedia a Sony employee leaked some information…

The device will include the same chipset as the current PS3 but where it will differ from the current model is in the drive bay and in the attachment area. It will also include an extensive software suite for the managing of content being streamed to a TV or Hi-Fi source. In addition, Sony is working on improving the output experience so that the device can become a true home entertainment centre eliminating the need for a media centre.

Does this description sound like it would justify receiving the PS4 title? I do not personally think so and assume it’s some stepping stone in between which is probably some kind of home media centre/PS3 mixed together.

I do not see a reason why Sony would use the same chipset for a next gen (4th gen) console… so as far as rumours go, I doubt we will see the Playstation 4 any time soon.

What they could be meaning is that they intend to stick to the Cell, RSX combo.
Just maybe double up the Cell and give it more memory. And get Nvidia to design an RSX 2 based on their new tech.

Or it’s also possible that IBM and Sony have managed to work out how to get CELL to produce graphics properly as was orginally intended with the PS3, ocs on Paper the CELL has a lot to offer it’s just taking the engineers alot longer to harnis that power then was orginally planned.
