Could a Wii number 2 be unveiled at this year’s E3?

Rumours upon rumours, numbering the near hundreds have been doing the rounds a fair bit lately and no wonder either as many gamers the world over including top analysts have been calling out for Nintendo to do something their little console and bring out the Wii 2 already.

It now seems that yet another rumour has reared it’s ugly head in the form a highly possible announcement at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles. It’s become quite plausible now that the Wii 2 could unveiled during the show.

So far all we have to go on at them moment is a quote given by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Japanese investor Q and A session in 2010…

“We are of course studying and developing the next console to Wii. However, there is a big difference between studying a product and announcing what it is and when we will release it.”

While he’s absolutely right in saying that studying a product and announcing the product are two very different things entirely, we can’t help but wonder if he was holding anything back. With any ‘new console’ prior to it’s unveiling, the puddle of rumours will quickly turn into a full-blown flood, even now, many detail the fact that the Wii 2 could possibly house an in-built projector, 3D capabilities as well as Blu-ray playback.

Does any of this wet you appetites? Do you have open arms to a new Wii console? What are your thoughts on Nintendo’s current home console unit?
