50 3D games heading for PS3, 30 this year

by Martyn on March 23, 2011 · 0 comments

Is 3D really that big a deal? Apparently so according to Sony who have their hopes firmly set on the year 2011 as being their year for 3D to finally take off.

Very early on last June, Sony released a firmware update to enable 3D gameplay and 3D Blu-ray playback. Shortly thereafter, a small game pack on PSN to further glorify the third dimension and show how games can look on their console. [click to continue…]

Kinect with PS3

If you have ever wondered what it would be like if you were able to use Microsoft’s Kinect on Sony’s PlayStation 3 then wonder no more.

Someone clever cloggs who goes by the name of shantzg001 has uploaded a video on his own efforts in porting the camera over to the PS3. The tech at the moment isn’t final for a long ways but you can definitely see the potential it has to do exactly what it does on the Xbox 360, if not more so. [click to continue…]

Crysis 2: PS3 or Xbox 360?

by Martyn on March 21, 2011 · 0 comments

So Crysis 2 is coming out for general, world-wide release in a few days and the hot topic on which console it looks and plays better on is rounding up quite the following. The original game that was launched back in November 2007 wowed a multitude of gamers that had a go of it, well those that had a PC that the game could run on that is…

It was a bit of a double-edged sword and still is. The reason? Graphically speaking, on a top spec’ PC, Crysis looks fantastic and by far still beats anything currently doing the rounds even 4 years later. That said though, few gamers have the greens to afford the graphics card that will run the game without the computer melting. [click to continue…]

We’ve come along way since the days of the wired controller, like the image to your left of the Nintendo NES controller. Gone are the days that gamers have to be permanently tethered to a console like a dog tied to a lamp post.

Previous iterations of wireless controllers have since been available that use a receiver to plug into one of the controller ports on the system but nowadays this technology has become intrinsically part of entertainment systems the world over.

When looking at the tech we have surrounding us today, you’d think we should have had this all for ages by now. Speaking of the likes of Kinect, Move and the Wii, you would be forgiven in thinking that one day, possibly in the very near future, we’d give up on controllers and cameras altogether, rather opting for pure brain power instead. Images like the one here on the left have been leaked that detail patents from Sony trying out some nifty experiments with regards to how gamers use their controllers on something that never quite saw the light of day.

It looks pretty compact, yet we’re thinking that maybe something like this could have been done by using some good old ingenuity and silver duct tape, and perhaps somebody out there already has. [click to continue…]

Just a few days ago we outlined rumours of a new piece of downloadable content coming soon for the once Xbox exclusive, now critically acclaimed sci-fi rpg/shooter, Mass Effect 2.

Now we have the details to go along with the now, non-rumour. Due for general release on the 29th of March, Mass Effect: Arrival will task the famous Commander (insert first name here) Shepherd in locating and rescuing an undercover operative. The reason? The operative may have some interesting information on the Reapers and their impending arrival or rather invasion. [click to continue…]

Those who won big at the BAFTA’s

by Martyn on March 17, 2011 · 0 comments

About a month ago, we were looking forward to the big titles that would be all set to do well over at the British Academy Video Game Awards (BAFTA’s). Now we all know, were the results as you expected?

The games that stood out amongst the crowd had to, most definitely be, Quantic Dream’s PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain and Bioware’s (now not so exclusive to Xbox) Mass Effect 2. [click to continue…]

We hate to further publicise the acts performed by those who wish to see the PS3 console blown wide open with only the desire to play pirated games and the like, but Sony have again underestimated the technical skills shown by these ne’er-do-wells.

A video that has recently cropped up with Sony’s latest firmware update, which was supposed to re-secure the Playstation console, having been hacked by a not so subtle gamer/hacker/annoying ps3 abuser. [click to continue…]

Have you ever had a burning question to ask, but didn’t know who could give you the answers that you’ve been searching so long for?? Well ponder no longer as Sony have now opened up a Q’n'A portal via the social hub that is Twitter.

In the gaming world, it’s been quite a while since new downloadable content has been available ever since ‘Lair of the Shadow Broker’ which finally lifted the lid on the story behind the being that was alluded to in the first title of the Mass Effect trilogy. Now though, we’ve been seeing some hints and rumours at a new piece of DLC named only as “Arrival”. [click to continue…]

It was at the beginning of last month when we first reported on Sony bringing game saves to the cloud and pick up those same game saves from any console.

For those not yet in the know (where have you been all this time???) ‘the cloud’ is a term coined a few years back that simply means the saving of information to online services. One example being the email.

Anyways, now that it’s here it comes at a price. The price you’ll have to pay will be what you pay for Sony’s online subscription service PlayStation Plus. [click to continue…]

So a lot of people quite like the PS3

by Martyn on March 9, 2011 · 0 comments

So it seems that a lot of people quite like the PS3.

Their online service clocked up an extra 70% on top of the previous year’s figures which places the PlayStation Store in good stead for the coming 18 months. This has been largely due to the increase in gamers opting in for Sony’s PlayStation PLUS service (rivalling Microsoft’s own Xbox LIVE program).
