Well people, it’s a happy day for those PS3 users of the American variety who have pre-ordered the next installment of Battlefield: Bad Company. The beta officially starts today, and the visuals look stunning! Check out the videos and information posted by Dice on the official BC2 blog here.
The game looks like it’s a slower pace than Call of Duty, which is never a bad thing in our eyes. One really nice feature that we are quite excited about is the ability to create your own vantage points. For example, when playing as the engineer you can drill a small hole in a wall, from which you are able to attack, but remain shielded. Check out this video, at time 4.35min to see what we mean.

Recently, Jan-Bart Van Beek, Guerilla Studios, is reported to have said that they are already on with the production of KZ3 and that it’s currently pencilled in for 2011, but he did hint it may even come as early as 2010. This is great news for PS3 fans, as I personally loved KZ2 and a sequel would be much loved.
However, the quick turnaround time between games does lean me towards the opinion that the game will be a re-working from the KZ2 engine, similar to the way Rockstar do with GTA. For example, GTA 3 was released on PS2, and then Vice City and San Andreas were released, with many improvements, but based on the same engine. This would sit well with me though. For me, KZ2 was great and I loved how it looked and played.

Sony have now made an official announcement that they are launching a slim Playstation 3. The new slim PS3 will go on sale costing £249.99 in the UK, $299.99 in the US and €299.99 in Europe and will be released on September 1st.
The new PS3 will have a new streamlined form factor making it slimmer, lighter and also use about 1/3 of the power of the regular PS3. The original PS3 (80GB version) has been reduced to £249.99. By using new components and a complete re-design inside, the slim PlayStation 3 achieves a loss of 2/3rds from it’s original size and weight. [click to continue…]

Last week we wrote about rumours of a PS3 price cut as well as a PS3 Slim being launched. Of course Sony denied this, as expected, but now Kmart have uploaded a banner to their website that talks about a “new low price and a new exciting Playstation 3″. Right now the banner takes you through to the regular page with no discount, so it’s unclear what the discount will be and if the exciting new playstation 3 will be a playstion 3 slim. A while back we mentioned that the PS3 slim was possibly being built although it just seemed like a rumour as the pictures showed a matte console rather then a glossy console that we were expecting.
More rumours are floating around now saying that a PS3 slim could be in stores this month due to being able to cope with the extended summer vacation demands (ie, school holidays). [click to continue…]
We recently received a 3rd party remote to review for the PS3 console. The remote was provided by the guys over at budgetgadgets.com, so a big thanks to them.
The remote is very simple to use, with setup being a case of simply inserting the seperate USB dongle into the front of the console. Once this is done you’re ready to go. The buttons on the remote are all clearly marked and are even made with Glow-in-the-Dark material so when the lights are down you can see the remote if needs be.
The remote is very light, and has good range too. In my front room the PS3 is approximately 4 metres from where I sit and it worked fine. Being infrared however, it does pretty much require line of sight to work. You can’t point it behind you and expect it to work.
For the price the remote is a great alternative to the official BD remote from Sony. As mentioned, the only downside would be that this remote requires direct line of sight, and an external USB dongle. But for me thats not an issue.

Some pictures have been found which indicate there is to be a slim Sony PS3 in the making. Sony have categorically denied this rumour though. The photos this time were leaked from a Japanese gaming blog. The photos show a similar depth to the original PS3 but a lot shorter height making it a slimmer console.
Slimming consoles down for Sony is not new. Both the PS1 and PS2 were re created in a slimmer form factor, so it is entirely possible that the PS3 could follow suit. The only thing which makes this rumour and leak a little questionable is that the finish of the leaked console pictures is not the glossy PS3 type finish we would expect. [click to continue…]
Sony today announced the latest firmware update for the PS3 – v2,70. Among the features is the ability to have ‘text chat’ between friends whilst in-game. You can enter three rooms simultaneously, and chat rooms can have up to 16 participants in them.
Sony have also allowed you to now send bigget files between friends, which is nice! 
Not an amazing update…I think we were all hoping for a little more such as actual voice chat during games but oh well. At least the slow progress means Sony is listening, they’re just not very quick at doing. Check out playstation.com for all the nitty-gritty details. Here’s hoping the next update is something better, although I seem to find myself saying that with every update.

With all this talk of the current gen consoles and what is selling best (ie, the Wii) I was surprised to see which console was at the top of the list of being used the most through out each week. In the last post here at PS4Talk we mentioned the possibility of 3D TV coming to the Playstation 4… well it now seems that Sony are completely ahead in that they might be releasing a firmware update that will bring 3D images to the Sony PS3. Sony will be supporting the Blitz Tech 3D Engine as of next year which will make it possible for the console to create stereoscopic 3D visuals and hopefully the same too for Blu-ray content. Zavvi are cutting the price of the Arcade SKU XBox 360 down to just under £100. It will be priced at £99.99 which seems like a bargain for this console.
As well as dropping the price of the XBox 360, the retailer are also dropping the price of the Sony Playstation 3 down to £269.99 which makes it £30 cheaper then previously. This is part of Zavvi’s last-minute Christmas sale which aims to make competition a lot more fierce amongst it’s main high-street competitors. Back on to XBox pricing… not only has the Arcade SKU been dropped, but also the Premium will now be found at £149.99 while the Elite is dropping to £199.99.
