Thoughts on Mass Effect 2′s Arrival

by Martyn on April 1, 2011 · 0 comments

Well it’s been a few days since it’s ‘arrival’ and I’ve had a few playthroughs and though it is by no means the greatest DLC I’ve played on Mass Effect 2, the story surrounding it definitely adds to the Mass Effect universe.

P.S. One or two spoilers ahead… [click to continue…]

Treyarch aren’t the only one’s who don’t much like cheaters on their Call of Duty games as Crytek are already working hard in keeping gamers making good use of exploits found during online multiplayer matches on Crysis 2.

Crytek made good on the release of their sequel to the original PC best-seller, though much like other multiplayer games already mentioned, people have been complaining about other users spoiling the online experience. [click to continue…]

First their were the rumours, then we had the details and now we have the gameplay footage.

First hinted at a few weeks ago, the latest and final piece of downloadable content heading for Mass Effect 2 will pit Commander Shepherd and his multi-universal crew against time while tracking down a lost operative who may have some leaks on the fast approaching Reaper invasion. Can good looks alone make or break a game?

Can our videogames survive on great visuals alone?

The list of games with great visuals is actually longer than you think with such games including the obvious Crysis and Cysis 2 as well as including a few others such as, Borderlands, Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Uncharted 2, Killzone 3 and either of the Gears of War games.

Well we’ve waited pretty much ‘forever’ (get it??) already for this game, so will it really make a huge difference in having to wait a little longer still?

It may not come as much of a shock, but Duke Nukem Forever has been pushed back to June (while originally having a release date made for next month in May). [click to continue…]

Made by fans of the game, for fans of the game comes Companion Pictures take on the Splinter Cell series with Splinter Cell: Extinction.

Now in times past, there have been films made because of games and games made because of films and films made that should have been games and games made that should have been films, too numerous to count. Unfortunately, many, oh so many, have failed on an oh so epic scale. We won’t name them here, though we’re sure all you readers could quite as easily name a few yourselves. [click to continue…]

Kinect with PS3

by Martyn on March 22, 2011 · 0 comments

If you have ever wondered what it would be like if you were able to use Microsoft’s Kinect on Sony’s PlayStation 3 then wonder no more.

Someone clever cloggs who goes by the name of shantzg001 has uploaded a video on his own efforts in porting the camera over to the PS3. The tech at the moment isn’t final for a long ways but you can definitely see the potential it has to do exactly what it does on the Xbox 360, if not more so. [click to continue…]

Crysis 2: PS3 or Xbox 360?

by Martyn on March 21, 2011 · 0 comments

So Crysis 2 is coming out for general, world-wide release in a few days and the hot topic on which console it looks and plays better on is rounding up quite the following. The original game that was launched back in November 2007 wowed a multitude of gamers that had a go of it, well those that had a PC that the game could run on that is…

It was a bit of a double-edged sword and still is. The reason? Graphically speaking, on a top spec’ PC, Crysis looks fantastic and by far still beats anything currently doing the rounds even 4 years later. That said though, few gamers have the greens to afford the graphics card that will run the game without the computer melting. [click to continue…]

We’ve come along way since the days of the wired controller, like the image to your left of the Nintendo NES controller. Gone are the days that gamers have to be permanently tethered to a console like a dog tied to a lamp post.

Previous iterations of wireless controllers have since been available that use a receiver to plug into one of the controller ports on the system but nowadays this technology has become intrinsically part of entertainment systems the world over.

When looking at the tech we have surrounding us today, you’d think we should have had this all for ages by now. Speaking of the likes of Kinect, Move and the Wii, you would be forgiven in thinking that one day, possibly in the very near future, we’d give up on controllers and cameras altogether, rather opting for pure brain power instead. Just a few days ago we outlined rumours of a new piece of downloadable content coming soon for the once Xbox exclusive, now critically acclaimed sci-fi rpg/shooter, Mass Effect 2.

Now we have the details to go along with the now, non-rumour. Due for general release on the 29th of March, Mass Effect: Arrival will task the famous Commander (insert first name here) Shepherd in locating and rescuing an undercover operative. The reason? The operative may have some interesting information on the Reapers and their impending arrival or rather invasion. [click to continue…]

Reports have come to light detailing some new digs for Square Enix, the makers of the Final Fantasy series. Information is scarce at the moment but so far, what we do know is that Square’s new hideout will be based in Canada at either Montreal, Quebec or Toronto. What is very interesting though, is that the main reason for the build is primarily in preparation for gaming on next-gen consoles.

Those who won big at the BAFTA’s

by Martyn on March 17, 2011 · 0 comments

About a month ago, we were looking forward to the big titles that would be all set to do well over at the British Academy Video Game Awards (BAFTA’s). Now we all know, were the results as you expected?

The games that stood out amongst the crowd had to, most definitely be, Quantic Dream’s PS3 exclusive, Heavy Rain and Bioware’s (now not so exclusive to Xbox) Mass Effect 2. [click to continue…]
