After racking my brains for a while I have come up with a few cool ideas on what might be made available in the next gen Playstation 4 (PS4). Graphics wise it would be cool to put yourself in the actual game through some sort of 3D scanning device that could take side and front profile pics with your web cam. Wouldn’t it be cool to run around on GTA as your self! Maybe you go down to the local scanning booth and they create you a permanent 3D wire frame model with textures that you can import in to any game.
Other options that might be possible is a live city that use real data of building being built so that a road in a game might actually be closed for road works and a plot of land that was available might now have a building on it. Maybe you could even put your own street in your game with a mixture of satellite imaging and fancy 3D rendering.
Networking will also be key on the PS4 and games should take the real life and put it in to games to make them more realistic. For example, a company in the Netherlands has build a system which tracks Formula 1 cars and allows you to race against drivers live as the F1 races happen. This takes AI almost out of the equation. Imagine racing Lewes Hamilton at the speed he actually races. A whole new level of depth will be needed. Games will no longer be confined to just a city or a few levels. You will be able to travel to other locations as games will be just massive.
I also expect to see a lot more of the social networking type stuff happen too with there always is a gamer online to play against, or several hundred. Games could be the home of 1000’s of players all playing out in their own corner of the gaming universe much like second life.
Seamless changes between games could also be a feature. Rather then sticking in a new blu-ray disk in your machine you just walk along to the closest virtual football stadium and start playing a game. Bored of football? you fly to the closest race track and have a bash at Nascar with a ton of other players.
It might happen this way, it might not. But it’s cool to think of what could happen and what will be happening with these next next gen consoles.
