At the GC Developer conference in Leipzig, Germany the president of a game development company named Crytek said that he expects that the PS4 will be launched in either 2011 or 2012 based on the launch dates of previous models of the playstation. The PS2 first launched in 2000 followed in 2006 by the Sony PS3. If we follow this pattern the release date should be sometime in 2012.
Cevat Yerli said that these dates he chose were just their own estimates and that nothing official had been released by Sony about the Playstation 4. However, he is quite excited at the thought and this is the development date they are working towards.
Is the PS4 actually real
Well, not exactly yet as it probably has just started development. But, according to Paul Holmen of Sony, back in 2006 it was announced that the PS4 would be released. Ken Kutaragi went on to say that he expected to see a PS4, PS5 and a PS6. Lets not too far ahead of ourselves here

Rumours are floating around, as usual, about the Playstation 4. This time it’s not actually about the console it’s self as such. The rumours according to “highly places sources” say that Phil Harrison left Sony due to the PS4 development which is about to kick off. The reason rumoured to be was that he couldn’t bring himself to go through the whole thing again.
